<h4 data-start="150" data-end="205">Flip the Script: Tell Them About Themselves</h4>
This isn&rsquo;t about repeating what the company already knows. It&rsquo;s about using smart, targeted research to shape powerful answers - and show the interviewer exactly why&nbsp;you belong in their team.
Before you walk into the room (or log on to Zoom), make sure you know:
<ul data-start="472" data-end="790">
<li data-start="472" data-end="535">
What the company does (yes, it&rsquo;s basic - but don&rsquo;t skip it)
</li>
<li data-start="536" data-end="584">
Who their customers are, or who they serve
</li>
<li data-start="585" data-end="642">
What challenges or pain points they might be facing
</li>
<li data-start="643" data-end="680">
What their goals and values are
</li>
<li data-start="681" data-end="738">
What they&rsquo;re working on now - and where they&rsquo;re going
</li>
<li data-start="739" data-end="790">
What their plans are for the next 6&ndash;12 months
</li>
</ul>
Armed with this intel, you won&rsquo;t just answer questions - you&rsquo;ll connect the dots between their needs and your experience. You&rsquo;ll show how your background, skills, and mindset align with their mission, culture, and objectives.
Wondering where to find all this? Don&rsquo;t worry - we&rsquo;ve got your back.
At Ocho, your dedicated recruiter is already plugged in. We know the hiring manager, we understand the team, and we can give you insider insight you won&rsquo;t find on Google. So ask us! Use us!
And here&rsquo;s the real game-changer: Don&rsquo;t just show that you understand their challenges - show how you can&nbsp;solve them. Come prepared with examples of times you&rsquo;ve tackled similar problems, improved a process, or delivered real results.
<hr data-start="1512" data-end="1515">
This is how you go from &ldquo;a great candidate&rdquo; to the right hire. And we&rsquo;ll make sure you get there, every step of the way.

<h4 data-start="120" data-end="180">Your Experience Got You Here - Now Let It Work for You</h4>
You didn&rsquo;t come this far just to talk about the next role. You&rsquo;re here because of everything you&rsquo;ve already done - and interviewers want to hear about it.
This is your chance to show how your journey so far makes you the right person for their team.
Talk about your recent achievements. Share the moments you&rsquo;re proud of. Highlight the skills you&rsquo;ve built - and more importantly, how you&rsquo;ve&nbsp;used them to solve problems, drive results, or make a difference.
Whether it's leading a project, improving a process, mentoring a colleague, or adapting to change - that&rsquo;s what sets you apart.
So don&rsquo;t just list responsibilities. Show your impact.
<hr data-start="829" data-end="832">
Own your story. Speak to your value. And let your experience do the heavy lifting. We&rsquo;ll help you frame it in a way that makes interviewers sit up and take notice.

<h4 data-start="140" data-end="178">What&rsquo;s Your Greatest Weakness?</h4>
Ah, the question that makes even the most confident candidates squirm. But here&rsquo;s the truth: it&rsquo;s not a trick - it&rsquo;s a test of self-awareness.
Interviewers aren&rsquo;t expecting perfection. What they do want to see is how honest, reflective, and proactive you are when it comes to your own development.
So no, &ldquo;I&rsquo;m a perfectionist&rdquo; won&rsquo;t cut it - it&rsquo;s been said too many times to mean anything.
Instead, choose a genuine weakness that won&rsquo;t impact your ability to succeed in the role. Maybe it&rsquo;s a technical skill outside the scope of the job - but one you're actively working on through courses or projects. Or perhaps it&rsquo;s something more personal, like finding it hard to switch off after work - and you&rsquo;re learning to set better boundaries by using tools that block notifications out of hours.
Whatever you share, the key is to own it. Show that you&rsquo;ve identified the challenge, and more importantly, that you&rsquo;re doing something about it.
<hr data-start="1118" data-end="1121">
We all have weaknesses - what matters is how we face them. So be real. Be reflective. And show that you&rsquo;re committed to growth.

<h3 data-start="147" data-end="197">Your Turn &ndash; Make It a Two-Way Conversation</h3>
An interview isn&rsquo;t just a test - it&rsquo;s a two-way street. Yes, they&rsquo;re assessing your fit for the role, but this is also your opportunity to figure out if the company is right for you.
Asking smart, thoughtful questions shows genuine interest - and gives you another moment to shine. It signals that you&rsquo;re thinking seriously about the opportunity, the culture, and how you&rsquo;ll contribute.
Here are a few questions worth having in your back pocket:
<ul data-start="650" data-end="834">
<li data-start="650" data-end="703">
What does a typical day look like in this team?
</li>
<li data-start="704" data-end="767">
What made you join this company - and what&rsquo;s kept you here?
</li>
<li data-start="768" data-end="834">
Are there any concerns about my experience that I can address?
</li>
</ul>
That last one? Gold. It shows confidence, self-awareness, and a willingness to grow.
<hr data-start="922" data-end="925">
<h3 data-start="927" data-end="971">Be Human. That&rsquo;s Who They&rsquo;re Hiring.</h3>
Beyond the CV, beyond the prep, beyond the polished answers - you&rsquo;re a person. Don&rsquo;t lose that in the process.
Let your personality come through. Share the things that light you up outside of work - whether that&rsquo;s travel, sport, gaming, volunteering, or your latest side project. These details create connection and make you memorable.
The secret? Balance. You&rsquo;re not interviewing as a robot - but you&rsquo;re also not just having a chat with a mate. Blend the professional with the personal in a way that shows who you are, how you work, and why you&rsquo;re a brilliant addition to the team.

<h4>Ocho People is a recruitment agency in Belfast built around one idea - Hiring is too important to be treated as a transaction.&nbsp;</h4>
Working as a recruitment agency across Northern Ireland and as a recruitment agency in Dublin, our team brings more than 100 years of combined recruitment experience to every client and candidate we work with, and we understand what it actually takes to build successful teams and scale ambitious businesses in these markets.
Our background spans industries and every stage of business growth. As a recruitment agency in Belfast, we've partnered with start-ups finding their first ten hires, and as a recruitment agency in Dublin, we've helped scale-ups build out leadership teams under pressure. Across Northern Ireland more broadly, we work with established brands protecting and evolving high-performing functions. That range matters because no two hiring challenges look the same, and a recruitment partner who's only ever worked in one lane can't offer the perspective businesses need when the stakes are high.
What sets us apart isn't just the breadth of our experience, it's how we use it. We don't believe in reducing recruitment to a stack of CVs and a keyword match. We bring insight into what's actually happening in the Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Dublin job markets, instinct built from years of reading people and situations, and a genuine understanding of what great talent looks like in practice, not just on paper. That's the difference between filling a vacancy and building a team that lasts.
At Ocho, recruitment isn't just a service we offer, it's a craft we've spent years refining as a leading recruitment agency in Belfast and Northern Ireland. We've lived through the highs of placing exactly the right person in exactly the right role, and the lows of tight markets, difficult searches, and hiring cycles that test everyone involved. We've supported candidates across Belfast, Dublin, and Northern Ireland through some of the most significant, career-defining moves of their working lives, and we've helped businesses make hires that shaped their next chapter of growth. That experience means we know how to move fast without cutting corners, think strategically under pressure, and deliver results without unnecessary process or empty promises.
We're also, simply, real people who care about real outcomes. Recruitment can be an impersonal industry, but that's never been how we operate. Whether you're a business leader working with a recruitment agency in Belfast to build out your team, or a candidate working with our recruitment agency in Dublin to navigate your next career move, you'll find a team at Ocho who is genuinely invested in getting it right, not just getting it done. We back that commitment with the depth of experience, local market knowledge, and hands-on support to make it happen.
If you're looking for a recruitment agency in Belfast, a recruitment agency in Dublin, or a recruitment partner anywhere across Northern Ireland, Ocho People is ready to help you get there.

Security Engineer

DevOps Engineer
A hands-on DevOps role with real ownership across cloud infrastructure and deployment tooling, hybrid from a brand new Belfast city centre office, paying &pound;65,000 to &pound;85,000.
About the Company
Our client is a well established IT consultancy with a long track record of delivering complex infrastructure and cloud programmes for enterprise clients. They have recently opened a brand new office in Belfast city centre and are growing the engineering team there as demand from clients increases. This is a genuine growth hire rather than a backfill, and the team is at the size where the person joining will shape how things are done rather than inherit someone else's playbook.
The Role
You will work on a large-scale cloud and infrastructure programme, taking workloads from on-premise virtualised estates into AWS and improving how applications are built, deployed and run once they are there. The work spans both sides of that journey: the migration and infrastructure engineering itself, and the pipelines, automation and self-service tooling that developers use every day. It is a hands-on engineering role with direct client exposure, so you will be talking to stakeholders as well as writing the automation, and there is a clear route to senior and lead positions as the Belfast team grows.
Key Responsibilities
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS, working primarily with EC2 and EKS.</li>
<li>Migrate existing virtualised workloads from on-premise environments into the cloud with minimal disruption to the business.</li>
<li>Build and improve CI/CD pipelines to make deployments faster, safer and more repeatable.</li>
<li>Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration so environments stay consistent and repeatable.</li>
<li>Deploy, manage and troubleshoot containerised applications running on Kubernetes.</li>
<li>Develop self-service tooling that lets development teams provision and deploy without waiting on the platform team.</li>
<li>Monitor platform health and performance, and respond to issues across production environments.</li>
<li>Work directly with client stakeholders and internal engineering teams to translate requirements into working solutions.</li>
</ul>
What You'll Need
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Strong hands-on AWS experience, particularly EC2 and EKS. This is essential, and the single most important thing we are looking for.</li>
<li>Experience with VMware technologies such as vSphere or ESXi is highly advantageous, and candidates who bring both VMware and AWS together will be of particular interest.</li>
<li>Solid working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerisation is essential, and experience with Helm is a strong advantage.</li>
<li>Demonstrable experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines is essential. The specific tooling matters less than the depth, so pipeline experience on any platform is welcome.</li>
<li>Experience automating infrastructure provisioning and configuration through code is essential, whatever tooling you have used to do it.</li>
<li>Strong Linux administration skills and scripting ability in Bash or PowerShell.</li>
<li>Genuinely strong communication skills are essential. You will be working directly with clients and explaining technical decisions to non-technical people, so this carries real weight in the interview.</li>
<li>Experience with monitoring and observability tooling is a strong advantage.</li>
<li>Exposure to cloud or data centre migration projects is a strong advantage.</li>
<li>An awareness of security best practice within pipelines and container platforms is desirable.</li>
<li>AWS certifications are desirable but not a substitute for hands-on experience.</li>
</ul>
Why Apply?
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>A brand new Belfast city centre office, with hybrid and flexible working.</li>
<li>&pound;65,000 to &pound;85,000 depending on experience.</li>
<li>Real ownership of the technical decisions on your workstream, with the autonomy to improve things rather than just keep them running.</li>
<li>Exposure to enterprise-scale infrastructure and modern cloud tooling on a programme with long-term funding behind it.</li>
<li>Direct access to senior technical leadership and client stakeholders.</li>
<li>A well established consultancy with the stability of a long client list and the pace of a growing local team.</li>
</ul>
Note For Applicants
All candidates must be currently residing in NI and have full UK Right to Work. Visa Sponsorship for this role is not provided.

DevOps Engineer (Cloud Migration &amp; Platform Engineering)
A hands-on engineering role combining AWS migration work with platform and developer experience improvements on a newly won client engagement, fully remote, paying &pound;60,000&ndash;&pound;70,000.
About the Company
Our client is a global technology consultancy with a growing Cloud and DevOps practice based in Belfast, operating as part of their wider London delivery organisation. They have recently won a significant engagement with an energy trading business and are building the delivery team for it now. This is one of the first hires onto that engagement, and the role carries visibility at senior level within the business.
The Role
This is a broad DevOps role with two strands of work running alongside each other. The first is migration: moving an on-premise VMware estate onto AWS EC2, beginning with the logical test environment, which calls for genuine vSphere and ESXi depth rather than cloud experience alone. The second is platform: improving self-service tooling, CI/CD and the parts of the deployment process that currently leave engineers waiting. You would work embedded in the client's team day to day while being employed, paid and developed by the consultancy, with a manager in Belfast responsible for your progression and for your next engagement once this one completes.
Key Responsibilities
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Migrate on-premise VMware workloads onto AWS EC2, starting with the logical test estate.</li>
<li>Own CI/CD pipelines end to end, building and maintaining Azure DevOps YAML pipelines.</li>
<li>Develop self-service tooling that removes the bottlenecks currently slowing developers down.</li>
<li>Manage containerised workloads on EKS, authoring and maintaining Helm charts.</li>
<li>Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration through infrastructure as code.</li>
<li>Administer Linux and Windows server estates across development, test and production.</li>
<li>Build observability across the platform using tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus and Splunk.</li>
<li>Work with security teams to embed container and Kubernetes security into the delivery process.</li>
<li>Act as a visible technical point of contact for the client throughout the engagement.</li>
</ul>
What You'll Need
Essential:
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Experience in a DevOps, platform, infrastructure or build engineering role.</li>
<li>Strong hands-on AWS experience, specifically EC2 and EKS.</li>
<li>Demonstrable end-to-end ownership of CI/CD pipelines, ideally Azure DevOps with YAML.</li>
<li>Hands-on VMware vSphere and ESXi administration, including migrating virtualised workloads.</li>
<li>Helm chart authoring alongside practical day-to-day Kubernetes experience.</li>
<li>Linux server administration and scripting in Bash and/or PowerShell.</li>
</ul>
Desirable:
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Windows Server administration across a virtualised estate.</li>
<li>Observability tooling including Splunk, Grafana or Prometheus, with experience building alerting rather than inheriting it.</li>
<li>Container and Kubernetes security, including exposure to threat modelling.</li>
<li>Infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible or equivalent.</li>
<li>Previous experience in a consultancy or client-facing delivery environment.</li>
<li>Exposure to energy, commodities or financial trading platforms.</li>
<li>Relevant AWS certification.</li>
</ul>
Why Apply?
<ul dir="ltr">
<li>Fully remote with no routine office requirement.</li>
<li>&pound;60,000&ndash;&pound;70,000 permanent.</li>
<li>Joining at the very start of a newly won engagement that carries visibility at senior level.</li>
<li>Genuine ownership of the developer experience rather than maintaining someone else's platform.</li>
<li>A rare combination of traditional virtualisation and modern cloud work in a single role.</li>
<li>Structured investment in certifications and progression between client engagements.</li>
<li>Continuity of employment and pay between placements, which contracting does not offer.</li>

Senior Platform Engineer &ndash; GCP / Kubernetes / Linux
Location:&nbsp;Stockport / Hybrid
Contract:&nbsp;12 Months
IR35:&nbsp;Inside IR35
Rate:&nbsp;Competitive day rate

<li>Produce clear technical documentation and support handover into TechOps</li>
<li>Provide senior-level technical input and recommendations across infrastructure projects</li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
Essential Skills &amp; Experience
<ul>
<li>Strong commercial experience with&nbsp;Google Cloud Platform (GCP)</li>
<li>Previous experience working on cloud migration projects, ideally on-premise to GCP</li>
<li>Strong hands-on&nbsp;Kubernetes&nbsp;experience</li>
<li>Strong&nbsp;Linux systems administration&nbsp;skills</li>
<li>Good experience with&nbsp;Terraform&nbsp;and Infrastructure as Code</li>
<li>Strong background in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering or DevOps</li>
<li>Experience designing, building and improving production-grade infrastructure</li>
<li>Good understanding of cloud networking, IAM and security principles</li>
<li>Strong automation mindset</li>
<li>Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical problems</li>
<li>Comfortable operating in a senior engineering environment and making technical recommendations</li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
Highly Desirable
<ul>
<li>Helm</li>
<li>AWS experience</li>
<li>CI/CD tooling</li>
<li>Monitoring and observability</li>
<li>Cloud networking and VPC design</li>
<li>Infrastructure architecture</li>
<li>Governance and security best practices</li>
<li>Experience simplifying or modernising complex infrastructure environments</li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
The Ideal Candidate
You will likely come from a&nbsp;Senior Platform Engineer, Senior DevOps Engineer, Senior Cloud Engineer or Cloud Infrastructure Engineer&nbsp;background.
The strongest candidates will have genuine hands-on experience across:
GCP + Kubernetes + Linux + Terraform
You should be comfortable building and improving infrastructure rather than simply deploying applications into an existing platform.
&nbsp;
This role would suit someone who enjoys project-based engineering work, cloud migration and platform design without being tied into long-term BAU support.
Interview Process
&nbsp;
The interview process is straightforward and consists of:
<ul>
<li>Stage 1:&nbsp;15-minute screening call</li>
<li>Stage 2:&nbsp;1-hour technical deep-dive with two senior engineers</li>
<li>Stage 3:&nbsp;15-minute final call with the Director of Systems Engineering</li>
<li>Offer following successful completion of the final stage</li>
</ul>
&nbsp;
Contract Details
<ul>
<li>12-month initial contract</li>
<li>Inside IR35</li>
<li>Stockport-based hybrid role</li>
<li>Approximately 2&ndash;3 days onsite initially</li>
<li>Potential for increased remote flexibility once onboarded</li>
<li>Strong likelihood of extension, with contractor tenure potentially extending up to 36 months</li>
</ul>
