The Role and What It Can Do For Your Career
This is a Senior Backend Engineer position with real architectural authority. You will lead key projects from concept through to production, drive backend architecture decisions across high availability, cloud native infrastructure and mentor the engineers around you. The work spans distributed systems, scalability challenges, observability and major platform initiatives — the kind of problems that build a career.
What sets this role apart is the quality of the engineering bar. The hiring manager is not looking for a CV that ticks boxes. AI usage in engineering workflows is also important here. The team uses AI tooling heavily day to day — tools like Copilot, Cursor and Codex are embedded in how engineers work. The tech is Go and Java across backend services, GCP cloud infrastructure, Docker and Kubernetes, high availability distributed systems design and modern CI and CD pipelines.
What you will need:
• 10 or more years of professional software engineering experience, including 5 or more years focused on backend development
• Advanced proficiency in Go and/or Java with a deep understanding of distributed systems
• Hands on experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally GCP, and containerised environments including Docker and Kubernetes
• Solid understanding of scalability, API design and performance tuning in distributed systems
• The ability to explain your architectural decisions, trade-offs and individual impact in depth — not just at a surface level
• Active use of AI tooling in your engineering workflow
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, proactive working style
Nice to Have:
• Exposure to event driven architecture including pub/sub patterns
• Experience in a fast moving scaleup or startup environment
