IT Infrastructure Engineer

Job description.

IT Infrastructure Engineer (Global In-House IT)

A hands-on infrastructure role supporting servers, networks, security and users across a global business, based on-site in the west of Northern Ireland, paying £30,000 to £40,000.

About the Company

Our client is a well-established international business with operations in several countries, supported by an in-house IT team. They’re adding an IT Infrastructure Engineer to support the IT Manager and keep systems running across every site.

The Role

You’ll be a key part of a small IT team: delivering day-to-day technical support, running infrastructure projects across on-premise virtual servers and Azure, and keeping the network, security and backup systems healthy. The work is varied. One day you might be configuring a site-to-site VPN or troubleshooting the virtual hosting platform, the next supporting users on the service desk or providing technical support during key business events. It suits a practical problem solver who likes owning infrastructure end to end rather than working one narrow queue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the IT Manager and wider IT team with day-to-day technical support across international operations.
  • Deliver infrastructure projects across on-premise virtual servers and cloud platforms, including Azure.
  • Maintain the VMware hosting platform across multiple sites.
  • Manage Windows Server environments, including Domain Controllers, Microsoft 365, SQL, SharePoint, IIS and Datto backups.
  • Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, internet connectivity and wireless networks.
  • Monitor, improve and upgrade LAN/WAN infrastructure and security controls, including antivirus and SOC solutions.
  • Own disaster recovery, backup, replication and recovery systems.
  • Support Windows 11, Linux, end-user devices, AV, VoIP telecoms and web-based applications.
  • Log, investigate and resolve service desk requests, escalating where needed, and keep asset records and documentation up to date.

What You’ll Need

  • 3+ years in IT infrastructure, systems administration or a similar engineering role is essential, and the single most important thing our client is looking for.
  • Hands-on Windows Server experience, including Active Directory and Domain Controllers, is essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and wider Microsoft technologies is essential.
  • A solid grounding in LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP is essential.
  • Experience configuring and supporting firewalls, VPNs and network security is essential.
  • Experience with backup, disaster recovery and system recovery is essential.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to work occasional additional hours around critical business events are essential.
  • VMware virtualisation experience is highly advantageous.
  • Azure or other cloud infrastructure project experience is a strong advantage.
  • Experience with Datto backups, SQL, IIS, Linux or VoIP is desirable.
  • Project management ability is desirable.

Why Apply?

  • A salary of £30,000 to £40,000.
  • Real variety across servers, networks, security, cloud and end-user support in an international environment.
  • Infrastructure project work across on-premise and Azure, not just ticket handling.
  • A small, close-knit IT team working directly with the IT Manager.
  • 30 days annual leave plus long service days, and a Christmas shutdown.
  • Office-based in the west of Northern Ireland, with an early finish on Fridays.

Note For Applicants

All candidates must be currently residing in NI and have full UK Right to Work. Visa Sponsorship for this role is not provided.
