My client is a well-established technology consultancy with a people-first culture and a reputation for digital transformation that improves services for millions of people. Most of their work comes through repeat business and referrals, and their Data & AI capability is expanding as clients bring them increasingly ambitious projects.
Role Overview
This is not a hands-on implementation role. You will be the trusted data expert in front of clients, consulting with senior stakeholders, defining target architectures and shaping governance approaches, then leading your team through delivery. You will also help grow the business through proposals, scoping and sizing new work, and line manage a small number of staff, owning their performance and career development.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with clients to understand their data requirements and translate them into fit-for-purpose architectural solutions
- Define and communicate target state data architectures, including data structures, flows, sourcing and integration patterns
- Design and establish end-to-end data governance frameworks covering quality, metadata, lineage and stewardship, and lead their adoption
- Embed data quality by design, defining controls and remediation at source and throughout the pipeline
- Resolve data definition and master data challenges across complex stakeholder environments
- Contribute to presales, including bid responses, solution shaping and estimation of large initiatives
- Lead product and technology selection at project or enterprise level
- Line manage and coach team members, taking an active role in performance management and career progression
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Data Architect in a client-facing or consultancy environment
- Delivery experience within large, highly regulated or public-facing organisations
- Strong design expertise across data modelling, metadata management, data transformation, data migration and master data
- Experience establishing governance practices from the ground up, not solely implementing them
- Presales or scoping experience, including estimating and sizing large initiatives
- Formal people management experience, including performance management of direct reports
- Highly proficient in at least three mainstream data technologies, with awareness of wider trends
Desirable Requirements
- Enterprise Data Architecture experience
- Experience architecting data lake or lakehouse platforms
- Capacity planning across heterogeneous data stores
- Experience coordinating multiple teams on large programmes
