Staff Engineer ( JavaScript )

Job description.

The Opportunity

We're working with a global software house to recruit a Staff JavaScript Engineer with strong expertise in modern front-end technologies. You'll be joining a 54-strong engineering team based in Northern Ireland, playing a pivotal role in leading the evolution of business-critical web applications into a single, unified platform built for scale, performance, and user impact.

This role offers genuine ownership over architectural direction and technical standards, with the opportunity to shape how the front-end is delivered and experienced at scale.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the design and development of a unified front-end experience using React and TypeScript

  • Streamline and modernise several existing applications into one cohesive product

  • Build shared libraries and reusable infrastructure for layout, theming, authentication, navigation, and onboarding

  • Collaborate across design, product, and engineering to define scalable patterns and best practices

  • Optimise performance, maintainability, and accessibility across large-scale interfaces

  • Set the benchmark for testing, documentation, and code quality across the team

  • Contribute to the growth of the wider engineering group through mentoring, pair programming, and knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

  • Strong track record building production-grade applications with React and TypeScript

  • Solid understanding of state management, modular component design, and scalable front-end architecture

  • Skilled in designing and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs in collaborative environments

  • Experience improving performance and reliability in large front-end codebases

  • Comfortable owning large-scale initiatives and mentoring other engineers

  • Excellent communicator with the ability to provide clear technical guidance across teams

Bonus Points For:

  • Familiarity with monorepos or shared component systems

  • Experience with end-to-end testing frameworks (Cypress, Playwright)

  • Proven delivery of large-scale refactors, design system integrations, or platform migrations

What Success Looks Like

  • You advocate for clean, consistent interfaces and thoughtful architecture

  • You raise the bar for the entire engineering team by sharing knowledge and leading by example

  • You take pride in solving real problems and shaping the experience for end users at scale

  • You deliver maintainable, well-tested code and help others do the same

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a high-impact engineering group of 54 developers where quality and craft truly matter. You'll have autonomy, a strong voice in architectural decisions, and the backing of a company that values modern practices and developer experience.
