Principal Software Engineer - Crypto Trading | Remote (Northern Ireland)
Up to £110k base + bonus | AWS | Greenfield Engineering | Optional Belfast Office

We're hiring a Principal Software Engineer to join a small, elite team building out core infrastructure for a next-gen crypto and digital asset platform. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on scalable backend systems, low-latency data flows, and secure, cloud-native architecture.

You'll work remotely from anywhere in Northern Ireland, with the option to collaborate in a modern Grade A city centre office. The engineering culture is clean, pragmatic and delivery-focused - ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems with smart, reliable code and has a passion for shaping high-performance platforms.

What you'll be working on:

  • Core backend services for trade execution, account management, market data, and transaction flows

  • Designing and building microservices and event-driven pipelines with strong SLAs

  • Helping scale infrastructure across cloud-native environments using Kubernetes and AWS

  • Playing a key role in architecture, mentoring, and platform evolution

  • Collaborating closely with engineering, infosec and DevOps to ensure robust, secure, scalable systems

  • Contributing to the selection of tools, patterns, and design standards across the backend estate

Tech stack includes:

  • Go, Java, Python

  • Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redis

  • Kubernetes (EKS), Docker, AWS Cloud

  • CI/CD (GitLab, ArgoCD), Prometheus, Datadog

  • Protobuf, REST, mutual TLS

What we're looking for:

  • Deep hands-on backend experience in modern languages (Go, Java, Python etc.)

  • Strong understanding of trading systems, crypto, low-latency messaging or financial platforms

  • Solid architectural grounding in distributed systems, APIs, and service mesh concepts

  • Comfortable designing and deploying systems on cloud platforms (preferably AWS)

  • Experience mentoring other engineers and guiding team-level technical decisions

  • Familiar with secure, reliable communication and monitoring across production environments

Location: Remote (Northern Ireland) with optional Belfast office
Salary: Up to £110k base + bonus + benefits
